Cedar Hills Regional Landfill Eco-charrette

Maple Valley, WA / 2024

Seva Workshop facilitated an “eco-charrette” to explore sustainable and equitable approaches for filling and closing Areas 5 and 6 at King County’s Cedar Hills Regional Landfill.

We planned and facilitated this half-day online charrette to identify and prioritize strategies for the project’s 30% Sustainable Infrastructure Scorecard (SIS). Facilitation was structured around small group discussions supported by a series of interactive whiteboard exercises. 26 participants from King County Solid Waste and their consultant design team were encouraged to brainstorm freely and think “outside the box” to positively impact the project’s environmental and social justice (ESJ) determinants. With Seva’s support, participants developed an extensive and innovative set of opportunities for sustainability and ESJ measures that could be implemented during the project’s design, construction, and/or operation. The eco-charrette was held to achieve compliance with King County’s Green Building Program as defined by Ordinance 18.17 of the King County Building Code.
