Island County Human Services Transportation Plan Update

The Island Regional Transportation Planning Organization (IRTPO) is updating its Combined Public Transit –  Human Services Transportation Plan. The Plan serves as a tool for identifying transportation needs and developing recommendations for improvements to existing public transportation services to better serve communities who utilize transit in the County, including those with disabilities, seniors, young people, and lower-income individuals. 

Led by the Seva Workshop team, the project includes community engagement, data analysis, and mapping to inform an assessment of existing transportation services, community mobility needs, and gaps in human services transportation across Whidbey and Camano Islands. Engagement will gather input from transportation providers, service organizations, and the broader community from meetings, surveys, interviews, and targeted outreach to better understand the experiences of transit riders and the needs of communities who access transit services across the county. Data analysis will merge engagement findings with mapped community and mobility services to offer a visual comparison of trends and gaps, and may reveal new findings that identify any possible barriers to transit utilization. Together, the quantitative and qualitative data sets will guide the development of strategies including prioritized transportation projects and the critical steps required to implement coordinated efforts among key stakeholders and the IRTPO.
